Author/ 作者:请叫我山大王// Please Call me the Mountain King
Synopsis:
Something new happened in Beicheng recently. A spooky haunted house in the East End had been empty for decades, and someone suddenly moved in. The people who live here are not some worldly masters, monks or Taoists, but a girl, an extremely beautiful girl with an extremely plump black cat. People were privately talking about whether this girl would be the seventh person to die in this house.
…
Jiang Su is neither human nor ghost nor demon. Jiang Su herself didn't know how many years he had lived or how old he was this year. Her appearance is ageless and her body is immortal. A corrupt soul wears the human skin of a beautiful girl, wandering around the world in a daze. She was greedy for money, lustful, lazy, and in her long life with no end in sight, her biggest hobby besides men was spending money, spending money like water. So Jiang Su has been wandering on the extreme edge of sudden wealth and poverty all year round.
In order to make her life easier, Jiang Su took advantage of her talents and became an amateur goddess (witch). In the profession of goddess, she is the best at catching ghosts. In the profession of ghost hunter, she is the best at reading Feng Shui. In the profession of reading Feng Shui, she is the best at telling fortunes. In the profession at telling fortunes, she is the best at catching monsters.
In the 21st century, seeing that her old assets had been eaten up, Jiang Su had to roll up her sleeves and go back to her old profession, only to find that the industry was declining and many of her colleagues were almost out of work.
Jiang Su decided to make a comeback and take up the banner of the industry.
…
Zhai Jinyu: Little girl, can you be more reserved?
Jiang Su's eyes lit up mischievously: Then can the old girl be a little more unrestrained?!
Zhai Jinyu: "..."
One dark and windy night,
Jiang Su knocked on Zhai Jinyu's door. Holding her chest, she leaned against the door frame in the weak wind, frowning slightly, looking at Zhai Jinyu with tears in her eyes, and her voice was delicate and soft: "Captain Zhai, my chest hurts, can you help me rub it!"
Zhai Jinyu: "...crazy."
"Bang!"
The door closed in front of him. Zhai Jinyu hates Jiang Su. He hates her for being cunning, shameless, cold-blooded and ruthless. Zhai Jinyu would never have thought that he would later value Jiang Su more than his own life.
The heroine is a beautiful and innocent little loli on the outside, but on the inside she is a coquettish bitch and a lustful old monster.
The demon management bureau captain who mouth says no but the body is honest VS the promiscuous and difficult little goddess.
💟
This is a lousy author. No seriously, if you read even one of her stories, you will understand why. I’m calling the author lousy because the author likes to leave readers hanging, with no intention of satisfying after hanging…
So the story starts with Jiang Su, the protagonist, returning from who knows where to her home in Beicheng that she abandoned some thirty years ago. The house is a legendary haunted house in Beicheng. Six tenants have already died in it. The house is rich in yin energy which attracts ghosts, so people cannot bear to live in it but our protagonist Jiang Su can. Why? Because she is an immortal; basically an immortal witch. She is not afraid of ghosts, demons, monsters and the likes. She is only afraid of pain. What I'm confused about is that Jiang Su owns the house, they clearly know it's haunted, so why are they still putting up for rent? For people to fear the house, the deaths must be recent for them to remember so clearly, no? Anyways,
Lao Sun is an old man who is fifty-five and makes a living by fortune telling. He is unmarried and lives alone next to the haunted house. People who have known him longer say that he is unmarried because he once had a lover who was as beautiful as a fairy, they lived together for a long time, but one day his lover ran away with a rich man. Lao Sun denies these rumours, but also does not explain his life to others. Those people were not completely wrong though, he did live with a beautiful woman, and the last time she was seen was indeed leaving in a luxurious car. That woman is none other than Jiang Su.
Lao Sun was only a thirteen year old beggar when he was saved by Jiang Su, on the condition that he becomes her property. Lao Sun had already fallen at first sight so he agreed and had since been her loyal servant. He is content with only being able to serve her. He loves Jiang Su, but does not want to own her, to Lao Sun, love is not possession… So when Lao Sun heard that a young woman was looking for him, he ran back home as fast as he could. Jiang Su returned this time, his first feeling is not aggrieved at being abandoned, but feeling relieved that she came back. “Why are you so slow?” Lao Sun just smiled, just like he did when he was young without refuting that he ran all the way. But he could not smile anymore when she said as if realizing, “That’s right, you’re so old now.” She has not changed, she looked just over eighteen. As young as she was when he first saw her, but looking down at his slightly wrinkled hands, and how he could not run as fast anymore, Lao Sun felt a little sad. Time has spared her, but it had not spared him. He was getting old, but she was as young as ever.
Jiang Su loves shopping, so although she earns a lot, she also spends a lot. There is no savings. The only rule she follows when shopping is that she must buy the most expensive ones. Over the years, Lao Sun had been saving money and he can finally swipe his card for Jiang Su. It’s a little sad to be honest. An old man, living frugally just to save money for a master who does not care much, what does it looks like?
Lao Sun continues his life as her servant, but he does not live with her anymore because he does not want to be abandoned again without knowing what to do. You guys, he even saved Jiang Su’s hair tie from years ago on his wrist. I almost cried for him. He is destined to not have his happy ending. He is a very patient servant to the irritable master, Jiang Su. He did not even ask where she went years ago and why she is suddenly back now. He just servers her, but he is now more self reliant, and always preparing for the day she would suddenly leave again…
Jiang Su picked up her old business again. Her first customer after her return is a middle aged business man named Zhang Qifeng. She managed to warn him and saved him from a fatal accident. Afterwards he visits with his wife Zhao Wan. Jiang Su warns Zhang Qifeng to not divorce his wife because she is his noble person and his prosperity depends on his wife. She also warns Zhao Wan to keep an eye on her husband and soon becomes good friends with her. Not because of anything, only because Zhao Wan knows how to talk(money) and is well connected and can introduce more business to Jiang Su. Turns out Zhao Wan’s husband was really cheating on her, but it is also true that he did not heed Jiang Su’s advice. Zhao Wan is reluctant to divorce him for the time being and only warns him. She also asks if there were methods to solve it once and for all. Jaing Su says there is, but he would become like a puppet without a soul, so Zhao Wan did not choose this method. They end up divorcing. It’s crazy how Zhao Wan’s husband did not heed advice even after experiencing the supernatural himself. Although it is not shown that he went bankrupt after divorce, but that is the ending right he is headed for right?
Zhao Wan soon introduces another business to Jiang Su. A woman named Mrs. Zheng, who is a little narrow-minded. She commented badly when she knew that Zhao Wan’s husband cheated on her, and boasted how her husband did not like those little things(vixens) and would never cheat on her. Jiang Su did not like it and also warned her that her husband had not cheated because he had not found a little thing that is to his heart yet, her smile was almost as if she was sure that it would happen, and it did. Jiang Su did not help her, because one, she chose to control her husband even after knowing that it would make him like a puppet, and two, Jiang Su does not like her. Anyways, this Mrs.Zheng has a seventeen year old daughter, Zheng Rongrong, who has been entangled by a ghost. Jiang Su went to solve it for her. Zhao Wan’s son, Zhang Xiaoqiao also becomes infatuated with her, so he is also at Zheng Rongrong’s house when Jiang Su went to solve the ghost. The ghost was in a well, so when Jiang Su jumped into the well to catch a ghost, Zhang Xiaoqiao called the police, thinking she was possessed and committed suicide in the well. This is what I don’t like about Jiang Su and the other characters in the novel. Jiang Su never gives thorough explanation on what to do during her action, and the other characters are meddlesome. This is a big problem, like you will see what happened in the end, unfortunately, we won’t see Jiang Su realize it, and regret it. After all she is an immortal and mortal tragedies are just some minor itch for her.
Jiang Su meets with the police, deputy captain Cheng Yan, Zhou Xiaoyu and others.
Zheng Rongrong comes with her mother to thank Jiang Su and asks for a talisman to attract peach blossoms(suitors). This kind of talisman is drawn on the body and can only be washed off by a special potion. Lao Sun is a little uneasy about this talisman, so when he wanted to voice his doubts, he is silenced with a glare from Jiang Su. So we the readers are also left wondering there about the possible dangers of the talisman, thinking we might be told later in the plot but we only get an unclear answer about how it makes women more vain and dirty? So frustrating…
After the talisman, Zheng Rongrong is now charming with no flaws on her skin, and attracts all kinds of attentions. There have been deaths in Zheng Rongrong’s school, two to be precise. One female student committed suicide, but the strange thing is that there was no motive, and she even put on an overnight face mask before she went to bed. But she jumped down the building around after midnight. On the night the second student committed suicide, Zheng Rongrong was staying in the school dormitory because she has been encountering gangsters outside the school. So with these two deaths, we would think that they are related to the talisman on Zheng Rongrong’s body, because one student died face mask on. We would wonder if the benefit of the face mask was reaped by Zheng Rongrong… there is no connection between them. I just mentioned this to tell you all how arbitrary the author is. Obviously it’s a good plot, but not well executed (just my opinion). There is another ghost causing trouble. The school was expanding and dug up a coffin, they buried it back but they accidentally tore a piece of the seal talisman, so now the ghost is causing trouble.
Jiang Su is hired to solve the ghost. When she goes to the construction site at night to deal with it, she meets the male protagonist Zhai Jinyu, a police officer who is the captain of the criminal branch and also the captain of the demon management bureau. It was instant attraction for Jiang Su. How I wish this novel did not have a male lead. Not that the male lead is not up to par, but I don’t like how Jiang Su changes (although only acting). I like her as a wanton flirt better. I mean she is an immortal; it is so cliché to fall in love with a mortal. But Jiang Su doesn’t entangle with monsters because they live longer than humans. She only wants to past time, but it will change with Zhai Jinyu.
Jiang Su is soon introduced to another business. The great grandson of the Zhao family has lost half his soul. Someone stole it forcefully. When she visits the Zhao family mansion, she feels inexplicably familiar with the place, but she has no memory whatsoever. The old man of the Zhao family, Zhao Wenzhao, has a little breakdown of sorts after seeing her. He calls out to her, “Huan, Huanhuan?” Jiang Su’s name was Jiang Huan when she was with Old Mr. Zhao. Jiang Su likes provoking men and then not taking responsibility afterwards. Old Mr. Zhao happens to be one of them. Although old Mr. Zhao regards Jiang Su(Huan) as his girlfriend, he was just a platonic friend to Jiang Huan(Su).
The old housekeeper of the Zhao family, Fu Sheng, once used to be Jiang Su’s servant. She handed him over to Old Mr. Zhao before she left and he had since been following Old Mr. Zhao. Yup, he also loves Jiang Su. It’s sad and crazy how the old friends/lovers/admires are now all old with one foot in the coffin. Old Mr. Zhao also has an illegitimate child whom he had with a woman that had eyes similar to Jiang Su. The one that stole the soul of his great grandson is the girlfriend of his illegitimate grandson Zhao Yunfeng. The woman is called Lin Yun, she will have troubles with Jiang Su and be face slapped by her. Near the end of the novel, Old Mr. Zhao is once again harmed by Lin Yu and he disowns his illegitimate grandson. He was reluctant before because he wanted to maintain the superficial harmony of the family. He also makes a will and leaves ten percent of the property to Jiang Su, because when she was Jiang Huan, she apparently helped their business a lot. She even set up a great Feng Shui for them.
The great grandson of the Zhao family comes to thank Jiang Su for helping him. The child is also a psychic now. He can see the ghosts living in the second floor of Jiang Su’s house. He even makes friends with one of the ghosts who is a newcomer in Jiang Su’s house. The grandson of the Zhao family, the child’s uncle, Zhao Yunchuan also falls for Jiang Su. He is a famous painter, and even paints Jiang Su’s back view for exhibition which, was then burnt down during the exhibition by some jealous alchemist, who is also the biggest villain of the novel. The villain is also pitiful but he really deserved it.
So Jiang Su visits the Zhao family again and there, the new psychic kid sees the ghost he befriended at Jiang Su’s house, on the news. Jiang Su is asked to help find the child’s body by Zhai Jinyu, and then found another bigger case. There were other kids whose lives were in danger. The perpetrator wants to resurrect his child in exchange for the lives of five other children. Jiang Su did not want to go because the payment was too less, but Zhai Jinyu, poor (he is pretending) and righteous, forces (sort of) Jiang Su to go with him, and Jiang Su goes because she has a thing for Zhai Jinyu. She ends up losing her life because she was not careful. She is an immortal so she tends to be careless regarding her own life. Zhai Jinyu failed to protect her because he had only seen her being powerful, and he ignored it unconsciously because she knows magic and stuffs. So Zhai Jinyu is like, stay alive and I’ll give you more than double of the payment I promised. One million. Jiang Su dies anyways, and Zhai Jinyu is full of guilt and other unknown emotions that he had not yet noticed.
Jiang Su resurrects in the morgue, she writes an invisible talisman for herself and escapes from the morgue. She calls her fox demon friend Li Shu and stays with him to recuperate. Zhai Jinyu somehow finds Li Shu’s apartment and takes Jiang Su away to protect, supervise, and take care of her as she is now not suitable to appear in front of the police Cheng Yan and Zhou Xiaoyu for the time being.
Jiang Su starts her live in with Zhai Jinyu, that’s how they developed their relationship. They are pretty cute. Read the novel and you will know. Jiang Su also helps Zhai Jinyu with another case. They travel to a mountain village where a dark marriage(marriage of the dead) was taking place; there Jiang Su meets an old acquaintance (enemy) who she once again doesn’t recognize and who wants to kill her because Jiang Su apparently stole her man, her brother Chengyu. Li Xiuzhi had her limbs broken and eyes gouged out by Jiang Su in Xicheng. Once again, she doesn’t have any memory and now she is determined to find out what happened in that place called Xicheng. Another reason is because she wants to know of her enemies that she might have forgotten, because she’s been having a dream that she was imprisoned for experiments again. She never dreams of the pasts or anything like normal people. Her dreams are all warnings for something that is about to happen to her.
Jiang Su meets her old servant Fu Sheng, who tells her to go to Xicheng herself and meet a Mrs. Wang, who might tell her if she is willing to. I’m frustrated to announce that she gets nothing in Xicheng. Mrs. Wang, like Fu Sheng and Old Mr. Zhao, refuses to tell her because they think it’s better for her to not know. Also, although Jiang Su pretends to be Jiang Huan’s grand-daughter, Fu Sheng and Old Mr. Zhao knows. Old Mr. Zhao even requests Jiang Su to tell him who(what) she really is before he dies. There is four chapters titled ‘Once upon a time in Xicheng’, but you won’t get what exactly happened in Xicheng. We get another character, Zhai Jinyu’s grandfather. Turns out Zhai Jinyu is also rich but he is just living with his two job’s salary on normal days. He went home for his birthday and his parents’ death anniversary. They died at the hands of a monster on his birthday, while he was saved by a lady. He doesn’t remember the lady’s face, only that the lady had a bangle with a bell on her hand. We know she is Jiang Su. Zhai Jinyu’s parents died in Beicheng, so he is working at the demon management bureau and at the police station in Beicheng.
Mrs. Wang’s grandson, Shen Chen is also attracted to Jiang Su. Every other male that meets her likes her. Shen Chen, Zhai Jinyu and Jiang Su go to tour Xicheng. Jiang Su knocks on a property that she inexplicably felt familiar with. Zhai Jinyu's uncle is taking care of the property for Grandpa Zhai, Zhai Jinyu’s grandfather. Everything in the house felt familiar to Jiang Su, and then she goes to meet this Mr. Zhai who had not been mentioned by Mrs. Wang, Fu Sheng and others she had met from that decade. Turns out Grandpa Zhai was once Jiang Su’s lover, who had sworn to protect her, but failed her in the end. Damn, both grandfather and grandson. When they meet, Grandpa Zhai calls out “Huanhuan” to her. Jiang Su also tears up, tears trickling down her face. Uncle Zhai thought Jiang Su was Grandpa Zhai’s illegitimate grand-daughter and feels sorry for Zhai Jinyu, knowing he is interested in her. When Grandpa Zhai reaches out to Jiang Su’s cheeks, he was stopped by Zhai Jinyu, who was petrified by his own conjectures. He already knows that Jiang Su and Jiang Huan might be the same person. Grandpa Zhai thinks Zhai Jinyu would not have needed to stop him, he would not have touched Jiang Su’s face, because when he reached out, he saw his own old and wrinkled hand which was in sharp contrast with Jiang Su’s young face. He is old, but his little girl is still the same, now standing next to her is his young grandson. Out of jealousy, he even stops them from being together, but Zhai Jinyu is determined, “I don’t need anyone’s approval. I don’t need to know who she is as long as she is Jiang Su.”
We don’t get the details of what happened, only that grandpa Zhai had wronged her, he blamed her because of a misunderstanding, and refused to listen to her explanation and even drove her away, and had since been living in regret every day. When Jiang Su shed a tear at grandpa Zhai’s “Huanhuan”, she hated him, because he made her cry. She knew he must have done something sorry for her that she even cried without having any memory. Knowing that Jiang Su won’t get anything in Xicheng, she decides to return to Beicheng. Zhai Jinyu confirms his feelings for her. He says, “You provoked me first.”
Jiang Su returned to Beicheng and meets Ning Xiao, Zhai Jinyu’s friend and mission partner in the demon management bureau. Her grandmother wants to meet her. Ning Xiao can take away people’s memory; her grandma has the same abilities. Turns out, Jiang Su had asked Ning Xiao’s grandma to take away hers of that decade in Xicheng. She told her that she would come back to get it one day. After that, she “woke up” in some mountain village, “stayed” with Ning Xiao’s grandma for a while. After she left Ning Xiao's grandma's place, she saved Lao Sun, then live with him for a while and then left for somewhere again.
Jiang Su was handed her memory, but she refused to take back the memory in the end, because, to make her want to take her memory away, she must have suffered humiliation. She did not want those pain and humiliation back. She was humiliated to know that she was abandoned. When had others ever abandoned her? It was only her, Jiang Su that abandons others. So she did not take back those memories but destroyed them instead. See? Just because Jiang Su did not want to know, now we readers won’t know either. The author could have told us through Grandpa Zhai, that way we would know and Jiang Su wouldn’t have to know, but the author is cruel. She left me frustrated without a place to vent!
Zheng Rongrong is once again possessed, this time by a vixen. Her body is an extreme yin body and is very attractive to ghosts. She had now washed off the talisman drawn on her body and lost the evil warding talisman bought from Jiang Su. Maybe she lost it intentionally because she kind of dislikes Jiang Su because her(Zheng Rongrong) hypocritical side is revealed in front of her. Jiang Su catches the essence of the fox demon and gives it to the black cat. Jiang Su's black cat also transforms into a human. All demons must register with the demon management bureau, so Jiang Su and black cat Hei Shu also went to register. Jiang Su signs the papers without reading, this is how the villain caught her. The demon management bureau had a new director who is called Wei Qin. He is an alchemist and was Jiang Su’s lover when she was called Jiang Li hundreds of years ago. Wei Qin is the alchemist that burnt down the painting that had Jiang Su’s back in Zhao Yunchuan’s exhibition. At that time, he designed for Jiang Su to fancy him and then imprisoned her for experiments in his research for immortality. Later he fell in love with her, gave up his research and then Jiang Su killed her with her own hands. He was shocked and could not understand why. Yeah right, you hurt a proud person like her and have the nerve to wonder why?
Wei Qin designed another plan again to imprison Jiang Su again. He also has an extremely jealous contract demon, a chameleon, named Manli. With the help of Manli, who can change into anyone, they frame Hei Shu(black cat), now he is wanted, and Jiang Su is under supervision because it was written in the paper that the master of the demon would be partly responsible. Jiang Su did not read before signing so now she is kind of trapped in Beicheng. Li Shu (her fox friend) is a very popular celebrity; he is also imprisoned on the charges of drugs abuse. Wei Qin is planning to cut off all her helpers, even for a while so that he can kidnap her. Jiang Su is back to living with Zhai Jinyu for protection and Zhai Jinyu realizes she is the woman who saved him from the monsters. He found out when he was arranging her tool box. He found the broken bangle with a bell artefact.
Manli wats to meet Zhai Jinyu. Knowing that they are planning to separate them, Jiang Su tells Zhai Jinyu that no matter what happens, he should ask her for clarification first. Manli tells Zhai Jinyu that the monster that killed his parents went crazy at that time because Jiang Su provoked the monster. Jiang Su indirectly got his parents killed. Zhai Jinyu is shaken, but he does not abandon her. They separate as Manli and Wei Qin wanted, but it’s all just an act. Jiang Su explains to Zhai Jinyu that she was trying to kill that monster at that time because the monster was attacking a kindergarten. She was sorry that she indirectly got his parents killed, but she was not provoking that monster for fun.
Wei Qin and Manli wanted Jiang Su to have a taste of betrayal. Lao Sun betrays Jiang Su for immortality, don’t be angry yet, it was all part of Jiang Su’s plan because she had the same dream of being caught for experiment and this time it felt like the dream was very near, like something that would happen in a few days. She was kidnapped by Wei Qin, who loves her and hates her. His experiments this time did not hurt but it did leave her powerless. He also wants to erase Jiang Su’s memories and only leave sweet memories with her in her mind. Ning Xiao’s grandma was invited again, but obviously she could not help. The jealous Manli, transformed into the director Wei Qin and released a powerful monster from the demon management bureau; her only condition for the monster was to kill Jiang Su. She doesn’t believe Jiang Su cannot die.
This monster is Jiang Su’s old enemy, the partner of the monster that she killed when she rescued the eight year old Zhai Jinyu. This monster wants to avenge his partner. At the same time, Zhai Jinyu also comes to rescue Jiang Su and fights with Wei Qin. It's unbelieveable how Zhai Jinyu even managed to contend against Wei Qin. Wei Qin can teleport and has magic, while Zhai Jinyu only has a magic sword and a strong physique. Anyways, Lao Sun and Ning Xiao rescues Jiang Su and meets the released monster. Zhai Jinyu comes to the rescue, he is injured. In this chaos Manli tries to kill Jiang Su, and Zhai Jinyu takes the bullet for her, forgetting she is an immortal. If Jiang Su had discussed with Zhai Jinyu beforehand, Zhai Jinyu would not have died in such an embarrassing state. Maybe they could have devised a better plan to deal with Wei Qin.
Zhai Jinyu dies, Jiang Su regains strength after drinking a potion, kills the monster, kills Manli, kills Wei Qin. This time Wei Qin dies with a smile, this time he did not need to know why Jinag Su killed him. Jiang Su had warned him before that this time she would wipe out his soul and she did.
Jiang Su goes to the underworld to bring back Zhai Jinyu’s soul. He was lining up to drink the Mengpo soup, it was a close shave. Despite his merit being halved and only having three more years to live if he returned with her, he did not hesitate to return with Jiang Su. He also resigned from his two jobs, and spent all his time travelling with her. The day he died, he personally cooked a meal for Jiang Su, and went to sleep with her. Jiang Su told him to wake her up when he leaves, but he did not. He did not even sleep with her on the same bed the day he left. Because he did not want Jiang Su to see a dead body the first thing after she wakes up.
He put something in Jiang Su’s drink to make her sleep; otherwise she would see him die. After Jiang Su went to sleep, he met Ning Xiao and asked her to take away his memories and give it Jiang Su so that she can give it to him in the next life. Ning Xiao had also resigned from the demon management bureau after Zhai Jinyu did. She had taken over the family business of taking people’s memories and storing them. That’s how Wei Qin had memories, because he had been storing them in every life and did not stop looking for Jiang Su.
In the extras, Jiang Su did not attend Zhai Jinyu’s funeral. She went to another city to witness the birth of Zhai Jinyu’s reincarnation. When he got older (seventeen), she gave him his memories. Zhai Jinyu without his memories thought he was a replacement of himself and was terrified how they even had the same name. So Jiang Su had to give him his memories before he was eighteen. She was even willing to wait until the next life to give him his memories if he did not want it in this life. She really fell. Here the author had made perfect arrangement of what would happen to the immortal Jiang Su. Maybe she would entangle with Zhai Jinyu in his every life, and when she was over him, maybe she would no longer give him his memories and would go to have fun on his own. We can imagine ourselves. This is a good closure in my opinion. I still do have regrets for other plots that she dealt with casually.
In the extras, we also see Cheng Yu, the man who fell in love with Jiang Su in Xicheng and later died for her. Jiang Su met him when she went to the underworld to bring back Zhai Jinyu. He was the boat paddler that transports souls to the underworld. He did not know Jiang Su was an immortal, so he had been waiting for her. He had transported all his relatives, but he still worked as a transporter. After he saw Jiang Su, although she did not remember him, he continued to work on as a paddler. He would continue to work on and live with memories of her as long as he wants, and would go to reincarnate when he no longer wants those memories. He had nothing special with Jiang Su. He hired her because he was entangled by a male fox demon, and since he did not want to hurt the fox demon, Jiang Su and Cheng Yu pretended to be a couple (lame I know, I don’t believe Jiang Su didn’t have any other method, maybe she just wanted to provoke the ascetic Chengyu). The couple act became real for Cheng Yu, and he could not wake up even when the play was over. Jiang Su left his life, while he lived on with her memories and even chose to die in her place. We still don’t know what happened at that time. The author is really cruel.
In another work of the author, the protagonist is Jiang Su’s apprentice. Jiang Changsui. We see that Lao Sun has once again been abandoned. Although I understand this time, I still feel sad for him. Unrequited love hurts. This, I understand from reading countless novels. Lao Sun is old and Jiang Su is not getting old, so how can they still interact. Jiang Su also did not want Lao Sun to leave a place he is already so familiar with. In Jiang Changsui’s story, she returns to live in Jiang Su’s haunted courtyard, and now what? Should Lao Sun cater to her as well? I do not like it. Jiang Changsui is the exact same as Jiang Su, she is a big eater like Jinag Su. She is pale and beautiful, with long curly black hair like Jiang Su, and more annoying than Jiang Su. She is like a copy cat, I’m sorry, I did not mean to hate on her, but why did she come to Lao Sun? Leave him alone. I do not particularly like Jiang Su, but I do not want to see the same kind of person keeping Lao Sun at her beck and call. I did not read Jiang Changsui’s story just because of this. I left after the first chapter. I think Lao Sun had enough being humble to Jiang Su. He does not need to be humble to another replica. I am prejudiced before even reading the full novel I know but I already don't like it after reading the first chapter.
When Jiang Su first lived with Zhai Jinyu after she resurrected, Zhai Jinyu went to Lao Sun to get her belongings. Lao Sun told him, “Please be patient with her, she tends to be irritable.” To which, Zhai Jinyu replies, “She is very good (obedient).” Please, I felt so sad for Lao Sun. Jiang Su had been irritable with him but she was very good to Zhai Jinyu. Although it’s his fault for falling in love with his master, but still, I wish the author had written more on some plot, or had more extras like she had written for Chengyu. At least we know his story, but what about Grandpa Zhai?
The end.
